Nienke Tjoelker became interested in Neo-Latin studies during a research seminar on the letters of Agrippa von Nettesheim during her degree in Classics. Apart from Neo-Latin epistolography, she is interested in early modern theater, emblem literature, and Irish Neo-Latin. For her PhD thesis she edited and produced a study of the Alithinologia (St Malo, 1664) by the Irish priest John Lynch. She published articles on this work, and on the emblems of the Imago Primi Saeculi (1640), and is currently preparing her PhD thesis for publication.
At the Boltzmann Institute for Neo-Latin Studien, she is working in the theater project line, for which she is preparing a monograph on eighteenth century Latin theater.
