This international conference explores how early modern interpretations of Tacitus influence later engagements in the cultural imagination. Rather than attempt to prove unbroken continuity in the reception of Tacitus, the conference examines distinct eruptions of interest in Tacitus. While the emphasis will be on the reception of Tacitus from the mid 16th to the late 17th century, the conference aims at exploring the extent to which this period of Tacitism set the agenda for later receptions.
