Annual Meeting of the Classical Association 2016

From the 6–9th April 2016, the Annual Meeting of the Classical Association (UK) took place in Edinburgh.

In collaboration with the Society for Neo-Latin Studies (SNLS), the LBI organised a panel entitled „Landscape in Latin: Regional Approaches to the Natural Environment in Neo-Latin“. This is the third time that the SNLS and the LBI have worked together on representing Neo-Latin Studies in Classics circles in the UK. The panel was well attended both by local Neo-Latinists and also classicists whose interest in Renaissance and Early Modern Latin literature had been piqued. Present on behalf of the LBI were Johanna Luggin („Horatian Journeys through Early Modern England“) and the panel coordinator William Barton („New World Landscapes in Ancient Forms: Laurent le Brun’s Franciad (1639)“). Representing the SNLS was Sofia Guthrie („Iceland and Mount Hekla in Antoine Garissoles’ Adolphid (1649): an anti-pastoral“) and Gesine Manuwald, the Society’s president, who kindly chaired the session.
