Tyrolis Latina Database

In the territory of historical Tyrol (i.e., the present Austrian province of Tyrol, South Tyrol, and Trentino), a huge number of Latin texts has been written from the Early Middle Ages to the 21th century. A good part of this literature has been preserved as manuscripts or printed books in the libraries and archives of monasteries, schools, universities, cities and other institutions. Between 2002 and 2009, this literature was systematically indexed in a project financed by the Austrian Fund for the Promotion of Scientific Research (scientific director: Karl-Heinz Töchterle). The result was an extensive database with more than 7000 work entries and about 2500 author entries. Of this large number, naturally only a small selection could be included in what was finally published in 2012 by Böhlau (Vienna, Cologne and Weimar) under the title Tyrolis Latina: A literary history of Latin literature in Tyrol (edited by Martin Korenjak, Florian Schaffenrath, Lav Šubarić and Karlheinz Töchterle). The treasure of the database created in the background of the Tyrolis Latina is now to be made available to the public in its entirety in revised form.
