Johanna Luggin has a PhD in Classical philology and a Master’s degree in Ancient History and Classical Studies from the University of Innsbruck. At the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute, she used her interdisciplinary background in the project line History of Mentalities, for which she prepared an edition of one of the key texts – Thomas Hobbes' poem De mirabilibus Pecci about the seven natural wonders of the Peak District in Derbyshire, which has come out in 2016 (Noctes Neolatinae 27).

She has also worked on "landscape and land" in the early modern period, especially landscape in early modern travel literature and in chorographic texts. Apart from that, Johanna has worked on battle descriptions as literary texts, on fascist Neo-Latin, as well as on the digitization of Latin works from the Tyrol in the project "Croatica et Tyrolensia", a cooperation between the LBI, the University of Zagreb, the University of Pula and the Marulianum in Split.

From 2015 until 2017, Johanna was based in Freiburg as the representative of the cooperation between the LBI and the University of Freiburg.

Since October 2017, Johanna is a post-doctoral researcher in the ERC-funded project "NOSCEMUS – Nova Scientia: Early Modern Science and Latin" in Innsbruck, focusing on rhetorical strategies in Neo-Latin scientific works: https://www.uibk.ac.at/projects/noscemus/.

In 2019, she was elected Executive Board Member of Die Neulateinische Gesellschaft (DNG).
