Florian Baumgartner gained a PhD in mathematics at the University of Innsbruck and soon later finished his teacher training in history and mathematics. Since 2016 he has been a high school teacher in Innsbruck and since 2017 he has been lecturing history of mathematics at the University of Innsbruck.

In October 2018, Florian joined the ERC-funded project NOSCEMUS (PI: Martin Korenjak) in Innsbruck as a historian of science and mathematical advisor.
